An investigative journalist who frequently accused government officials of mishandling public funds, he was fatally shot in his home on April 28 by gunmen who escaped on a motorcycle. Local authorities in the southern town of Neiva believe he was killed for attacking government officials. "He said that he was going to be killed, and I believe that his assassination is related to his work," said Ricardo Areiza, editor-in-chief of local newspaper Diario del Huila. He was 65.
