A reporter with the news channel Al Arabiya, based in the United Arab Emirates, he and cameraman Ali Abdel Aziz were fatally shot March 18 when they were covering a rocket attack on a Baghdad hotel. Shots reportedly came from the direction of a U.S. military checkpoint near the hotel, killing Abdel Aziz instantly and fatally wounding al-Khatib, who died in a hospital the next day.
