An Iraqi freelance television cameraman, he had been working for ABC News for two months and was covering house-to-house searches by U.S. Marines in Fallujah, west of Baghdad, on March 26. According to witnesses cited in an Associated Press story, he and other journalists were caught in an exchange of gunfire between Marines and insurgents, and a bullet struck him in the forehead. It was unclear which group fired the fatal bullet.
