The longtime photographer and online production editor for the Dayton Daily News collapsed while covering a rally for presidential candidate John Kerry in Springfield, Ohio. Although CPR was administered, he was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital. In addition to his photo work, he wrote columns on technology and feature stories on a variety of subjects. He covered breaking news and produced audio and video for the newspaper's Web site. He also taught at the University of Missouri, from which he held degrees in journalism and education. He was 50 and left a wife and a son.
