Shortly after he had broadcast a report on a crime wave in Azua, Andujar was ambushed and fatally shot. During the broadcast, the radio host had discussed the deaths of four gang members in a battle with police. As Andujar left the station that morning, two gunmen on motorcycles opened fire. He died in a local hospital. Andujar, 49, also was the local correspondent for the daily Listin Diario, a capital city newspaper. He had received death threats. Later, a radio reporter who witnessed Andujar's murder was shot and lost part of an arm to amputation.
