The Bataan Province correspondent for the Manila tabloids Remate and Bulgar was killed by gunmen while riding home on his motorcycle. Local journalists contend that Binungcal, who also was known as Romy, was murdered in retaliation for his reporting about provincial police corruption, which resulted in several policemen losing their jobs. He was 43, was married and had six children.
