Assailants wielding axes and knives ambushed the editor of the Bangla-language Durjoy Bangla and decapitated him. There is some uncertainty as to the motive for his murder. Some local journalists believe that he was killed because of his newspaper work, while others think he was slain because of his Hindu activism and his involvement in a land dispute at a local temple. He was a journalist for nearly 30 years and active in several journalism associations.
