A photographer for the Chilean news agency La Bocina and the weekly Punto de Vista, he was covering a demonstration April 19 in the Ecuadorean capital, Quito, when he inhaled tear gas fired by the police. He suffered a heart attack and died that evening. A Chilean, Garcia Romero, 58, had lived in Ecuador for about 20 years.
