An experienced crime reporter in Nuevo Laredo, on the U.S.-Mexico border, she was shot at 14 times as she parked her car at the radio station to go to work on April 5. Nine of the bullets struck her; she died 11 days later. The shooting occurred half an hour after the station had aired her report about the killing of a Nuevo Laredo defense lawyer. She was 39.
