Al-Attar, a producer for the state television news channel, Al-Iraqiya, was kidnapped and shot to death in Mosul on July 1. Employees of the station have been targeted by insurgents, presumably because of the station's relations with the new Iraqi government. At least three other employees of the station were murdered prior to al-Attar's slaying. He worked on a number of programs, including one described as a satirical look at the Iraqi government.
