A longtime investigative journalist and radio host, he was in his car outside the station when assailants shot him about 20 times and then fled on motorcycles. He often reported on corruption, most recently focusing on a local mayor and other government officials. He had received threats for about six months and had been injured when two men on a motorcycle shot at him on May 21.
