The bullet-riddled body of the freelance journalist was discovered by police about two weeks after he was kidnapped at a gas station. He was found in a section of Baghdad known as al-Sadr city. A report claimed that his family was unable to pay a ransom demand. Local sources said he was a well-known columnist for several Baghdad newspapers and may have been targeted for his criticism of the Shiite-controlled security forces.
