Al-Rubai, a design editor for the Iraq state-run daily Al-Sabah, was shot while going to work. According to the newspaper, the journalist had received an e-mail death threat because he accused the military arm of the Mujahedeen Council, an al-Qaida affiliate, of a car bombing at the newspaper that killed two people. Al-Sabah has been targeted by other groups.
