A poet and a journalist, he had been covering the meeting of tribal chiefs at the Mansour Hotel in Baghdad when a suicide bomb went off, killing the reporter but leaving his camera crew unhurt. He hosted two programs on state-run Al-Iraqiya television. According to an Iraqi Web site, on one of his programs he "visited Sunni and Shiite groups and used his poetry to open dialogue about ways to end Iraq's sectarian bloodshed." He was 39.
