A freelance cameraman on assignment for ABC News, he and a soundman were driving from Denver to Omaha to cover fatal shootings at a shopping mall when they were in a traffic accident near Grand Island, Neb. Binder was killed in the accident; the soundman received minor injuries. Binder joined ABC News in 1974 and worked at the network’s Washington bureau before moving to Denver, where he worked as a freelancer for ABC. He was 58 and is survived by his wife, a freelance producer for ABC News, and two sons.
