Bautista, a reporter for a new community radio station, and a colleague were ambushed in the Oaxaca region. Both were shot to death; three others in their vehicle were wounded. The station, whose name translates to "The Voice That Breaks the Silence," had been receiving death threats since it went on the air. The Mexican branch of the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters said that there have been violent acts against other stations serving the indigenous communities in the region. Bautista was 24.
