Four Al-Sharqiya employees -- senior correspondent al-Ezawi, two cameramen and their driver -- were abducted, and their bullet-ridden bodies were found later that day. They were working on a program about the Ramadan holiday. The station, which reportedly is owned by a broadcast official who served under deposed President Saddam Hussein, aired a statement protesting the "dark forces ... silencing the voices of freedom and attacking the national independent media." Five suspects were arrested by Iraqi police.
