News Organization: MVS RADIO NETWORK
Well-known in Tabasco for his morning radio program "El Padrino Fonseca" ("The Godfather Fonseca"), Fonseca was putting up banners denouncing crime when four people approached him. One account said an attempt was made to abduct him, and when he resisted, he was shot several times. The gunmen fled in a truck. Fonseca was taken to a hospital, where he died the next day. Several weeks earlier, Fonseca had announced that he would be putting up posters as part of his anti-crime campaign. The local government condemned the killing of an "exceptional member" of the news media. He was 35.
