Borrelli, a sports reporter, was climbing up a steep stairway to the press box at All High Stadium in Buffalo, N.Y., to cover a high school football game when his head hit a steel girder and he fell down the stairs. Paralyzed from the neck down, Borrelli died in a hospital 12 days later. "Tom died on the job, doing what he loved, covering a game," his editor said. Borrelli, who was 51 and married, had been with The Buffalo News since 1989. In January 2009, state investigators cited the Buffalo school system for "the hazardous condition" of the stairs Borrelli fell down.
