Eight armed, hooded men came to Barron's house in Gomez Palacio, Mexico, beat him and forced him into a car. His body, which showed signs of torture and had more than 10 bullet wounds, was found the next day in an irrigation ditch. Barron, a police reporter, had been covering a police corruption scandal that resulted in 302 policemen being fired. One suspect confessed to killing him to suppress local news reports. Barron was 35 and is survived by his wife and two young daughters.
