Hunter, a U.S. Army journalist, was killed by an improvised explosive device in Kandahar. He was covering the 101st Airborne Division in Afghanistan for the weekly newspaper of the division’s home base in Fort Campbell, Ky. Hunter was carrying his camera when he was killed. His editor said that Hunter regularly wrote stories and provided photos of the division’s troops. He was 25 and a staff sergeant.
