Gomes, a veteran radio reporter and blogger, was shot five times outside his home by gunmen on motorcycles. Gomes reported on corruption, drug trafficking and crime, and recently broke a story about politicians buying votes in exchange for crack cocaine. A colleague described Gomes as “one of the most courageous reporters in this part of Brazil.” He was 48.
