Paul Lockyer, a veteran reporter for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, was killed in a helicopter crash along with cameraman John Bean and their pilot, Gary Ticehurst. They were working on news and feature projects in South Australia when the helicopter went down in a remote area near Lake Eyre. The broadcast company called the crash “the saddest of days for the ABC” and referred to Lockyer as one of its most experienced journalists. In his 40 years as a journalist, he worked in Asia, Central America and the United States. Lockyer was 61.
