Bean, a veteran cameraman for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, was killed in a helicopter crash along with reporter Paul Lockyer and their pilot, Gary Ticehurst. They were working on news and feature projects in South Australia when the helicopter went down in a remote area near Lake Eyre. The broadcast company called the crash “the saddest of days for the ABC,” noting that Bean was “the cameraman everyone wanted to work with.” Bean had 17 years of varied experience in television and had won a number of camera industry awards. He was 48.
