Al-Sayed, a videographer, was killed by shelling in Homs that targeted rebels seeking to overthrow President Bashar Assad. Al-Sayed posted his videos of fighting in Homs online, and they aired on international news outlets. His cousin, Basil al-Sayed, also a citizen journalist videographer, was killed in the fighting in Homs in December 2011.
