Abu al-Burghul, an editor of the state-owned daily newspaper Al-Thawra and a program host on Radio Damascus, was shot in the head by unidentified gunmen on Dec. 30, 2011. He had just returned home from doing his weekly radio show. He died on Jan. 2, 2012.
