Shot April 3, along with her Iraqi Kurd bodyguard near Sulaymaniyah, which is in Kurdish northern Iraq. She worked for Agence France-Presse and German newspapers and was the only foreign journalist in the area. Her death was blamed on warring Kurds or Turkish intelligence agents. She was 35 and had been expelled from Turkey after several years of reporting on the Kurds.
