Each year, the Newseum rededicates the Journalists Memorial, which pays tribute to reporters, editors, photographers and broadcasters who gave their lives reporting the news. On March 30, 2009, the names of 62 journalists who died or were killed while on assignment in 2008 were added to the memorial, along with 15 journalists from previous years whose deaths were brought to the attention of the Newseum in 2008. The Journalists Memorial now honors 1,913 journalists from around the world who died covering the news from 1837 through 2008.
