The Newseum is committed to providing a quality experience for all visitors. The ADA compliant services offered cover visitors who are deaf or hard of hearing, have mobility impairments, and are blind or have low vision.

Trained service animals are welcome at the Newseum. All service animals must remain on a leash or be harnessed at all times. Please note that Newseum staff and security officers are not permitted to handle service animals.

Building Accessibility

The Newseum’s exhibits and store are fully wheelchair accessible. Visitor Services maintains a limited number of wheelchairs, mobility scooters and walking aids for use in the Newseum that are available on a first-come, first-served basis. All are free at the coat check on Level 1. Visitors are requested to leave a photo ID while using any of these items. Sorry, no advance or phone reservations.

Elevators provide access to all floors and exhibits, and are located on the east and west ends of the building. All restrooms are wheelchair accessible and located on the east end of the building. There is minimal seating in the exhibit areas.

For Visitors Who Are Blind or Have Low Vision

For Visitors Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

The Newseum is pleased to offer one-hour guided Orientation Tours for visitors who are deaf or hard of hearing and use American Sign Language. Tours will be held on the first Saturday of each month at 1:30 p.m. Tours are on a first-come, first-served basis and do not require advanced notice. Additional ASL tours will be provided with seven business days notice by emailing or calling the AccessUs Hotline at 202/292-6453.

The majority of the Newseum’s films and videos are open captioned. The script for “I-Witness: A 4-D Time Travel Adventure,” featured in the Walter and Lenore Annenberg Theater, is available in the 4-D holding area and at the information desk on Level 1.

Assistive listening devices (headsets) are available at the information desk.
