Angus Thuermer

Arrest by the Gestapo
Face to Face with Hitler

Back

Angus Thuermer joins The Associated Press' Berlin office in 1939 and covers the outbreak of World War II. One day in Berlin, he's stopped by guards as an automobile slowly passes. Only a few feet from the car, Thuermer looks at the passenger, who acknowledges his presence. It is Adolf Hitler. Leaving Germany in 1942, Thuermer serves in naval intelligence for the remainder of the war.
