The latest episode of the Newseum Podcast’s Pulitzer Prize Photos series features an interview with Associated Press photographer Alan Diaz, who captured this award-winning image of one of the biggest news stories of 2000. After a five-month, international custody war between young Elian Gonzalez’s family in Miami and his father in Cuba, federal agents stormed the house and took the child. Diaz’s photo became a visual touchstone for the story and won the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography.
