Congratulations to Bridget Allen, the winner of an all-expenses paid trip to the Newseum’s 6th annual Teacher Open House in early October. Allen’s name was drawn from more than 1,000 sweepstakes entries. Allen teaches American and British literature at Caledonia High School in Caledonia, Mich. We look forward to welcoming her and all teachers to the Teacher Open House on Oct. 3.
Allen, who notes she has “never won a contest before,” is eager to mingle with her peers. “I am grateful for the opportunity to commune with other teachers at the Newseum Open House. Oddly enough, for as many young people as we connect with daily, we get very little actual time to collaborate with, observe, and even associate with our colleagues, each being in our own space throughout the school day. I look forward to a day of professional meetings with my peers.”
If you didn’t win but are coming in from out of town for the event, we have a special deal for you. The Comfort Inn Downtown D.C./Convention Center is offering a discounted rate for stays Friday and/or Saturday night, Oct. 2 and Oct. 3. Book by using this link, which will pull up the special LNEW rate. The hotel is about 1.3 miles or two Metro stops from the Newseum.
We hope everyone has Oct. 3 circled on their calendars. The Open House, which runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., is our opportunity to show appreciation for teachers and to showcase all that the Newseum and its Education Department have to offer. The schedule of events will be posted this summer on the Newseum Education website and appear in the Educator’s e-Newsletter.
