Sarah Harris from Washington Yu Ying Public Charter School in D.C. is the winner of a drawing among educators who completed a survey after visiting the Newseum in the first half of this year. She received four tickets to the Newseum, a poster with lesson plans, a copy of “The Race Beat: The Press, the Civil Rights Struggle, and the Awakening of a Nation,” a flash drive and more.
During their April visit to the Newseum, Harris and her fifth-grade students took the class The Civil War: From the Front Lines to the Front Pages.
“Our students had studied the Civil War in September, but the workshop we attended really highlighted the different perspectives of the Union and Confederate sides through the use of primary sources,” Harris said. “It was interactive and fun to put together the newspaper in teams, and our students greatly enjoyed their experience.”
Thank you Sarah! We value all feedback from school groups visiting the Newseum, as we work to ensure that you and your students enjoy the experience.
