Newseum Celebrates Pride Weekend on Sunday, June 9

Rise Up, Pride Weekend,

Festival-goers wearing Newseum temporary tattoos will receive 25 percent off their general admission Newseum tickets.

On Sunday, June 9, Washington, D.C. will celebrate its LGBTQ community during the Capital Pride Festival on Pennsylvania Avenue. The Newseum will support the day with an activation in front of its building, featuring Newseum-themed temporary tattoo giveaways. NewseumED, which presents free classes at the Newseum and virtual classes for school groups, will host a button-making station to acknowledge the LGBTQ community and its champions.

Festival-goers wearing Newseum temporary tattoos will receive a special offer — 25 percent off their general admission Newseum tickets. Temporary tattoos may be used to gain discounted entry to the museum through Dec. 31, 2019. Visitors must wear the tattoo and display it to a Newseum admission desk representative to take part in this discount. Like all Newseum tickets, these discounted tickets are valid for two consecutive days; purchase your discounted ticket through this special offer, and the next day’s visit is free!

The Newseum’s latest exhibit also highlights the historic and contemporary contributions of the LGBTQ community. “Rise Up: Stonewall and the LGBTQ Rights Movement” explores the modern gay rights movement in the United States and marks the 50th anniversary of a June 1969 police raid of the Stonewall Inn in New York’s Greenwich Village. “Rise Up” also looks at popular culture’s role in influencing attitudes about the LGBTQ community through film, television and music and explores how the gay rights movement harnessed the power of public protest and demonstration to change laws and shatter stereotypes.

We encourage visitors to enjoy Capital Pride’s upcoming events and hope you will consider visiting the Newseum’s “Rise Up” exhibit to learn more about the LGBTQ rights movement while sharing your pride with family and friends.
