Newseum > Collection
The Newseum collections support the Newseum mission to increase public understanding of the importance of a free press and the First Amendment and preserve journalism history. Artifacts are selected for their potential to populate public exhibits and/or serve as tools for educational outreach. The collections will be preserved with the expectation of serving the journalism community, students and the general public.
While we continue to discern the details of our future form and location, we plan to make use of the materials in our permanent collection within traveling exhibits, as part of our outgoing loan program, via online offerings, and more.
The Newseum is also committed to providing access to its collections through the loan of objects to nonprofit educational institutions for educational and scholarly purposes. Loan requests are reviewed by the Collection Planning Committee, taking into consideration factors including: exhibition/education plan, borrower’s facility report, artifact condition, security, etc. Borrowing institutions are responsible for all costs associated with the outgoing loan to include: transportation, insurance, installation, etc.
