From President Trump’s sustained assault on the American media as “fake news” and “the enemy of the American people” to the savage murder of Jamal Khashoggi at the hands of the Saudi government, the press is under serious threat.
The Boston Globe, in partnership with the Freedom Forum Institute, hosts a panel discussion on the escalated war against journalists both here and abroad.
In August 2018, the Globe spearheaded the #FreePress campaign in which more than 400 newspapers around the nation joined together to publish editorials that explained the role of journalists and amplified the positive role journalism plays in society.
Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Marjorie Pritchard, deputy managing editor of the Globe who led the #FreePress campaign, will deliver opening remarks.
The program will be moderated by CNN chief media correspondent Brian Stelter.
