Join some of the nation’s leading sports writers for an engaging discussion about the “Legends of the Keyboard,” a group of journalists who excelled at crafting engaging stories infused with the drama, personalities and sheer excitement of sports.

The program is the latest in an annual series about sports journalism. The series is co-sponsored by the Newseum Institute and the Shirley Povich Center for Sports Journalism at the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism.

Panelists include:

  • Christine Brennan, author, national sports columnist for USA Today, and commentator for ABC News, CNN, “PBS NewsHour” and NPR’s “Morning Edition”
  • Thomas Boswell, sports columnist for The Washington Post
  • Robert Lipsyte, author, sports journalist and former Ombudsman for ESPN
  • Kevin Merida, author, journalist, senior vice president of ESPN and editor-in-chief of the ESPN sports blog “The Undefeated”
  • Claire Smith, former sports journalist for The New York Times and The Philadelphia Inquirer, current news editor for ESPN
  • Terence Smith, journalist for “PBS NewsHour,” The New York Times, and CBS News.

The panel discussion will be moderated by George Solomon, director of the Povich Center and former assistant managing editor of sports at The Washington Post; and Gene Policinski, chief operating officer of the Newseum Institute and former managing editor of sports at USA Today.
