CONUS 1 Satellite Truck

“We made it possible for local TV stations to write their own headlines.” — Stan E. Hubbard

This CONUS 1 truck was the world’s first satellite newsgathering vehicle, a technological breakthrough that changed the way local television stations covered news. Hubbard Broadcasting and CONUS Communications developed the truck in 1984. Broadcaster Stanley S. Hubbard introduced the world to satellite television. His son, Stan E. Hubbard, envisioned the newsgathering truck that made satellite news transmission mobile. For the first time in broadcast history, local television stations could air live news reports from anywhere in the nation and were no longer dependent on their networks for covering and presenting national news stories.
