Getting Here

The Newseum is conveniently located between the U.S. Capitol and the White House on historic Pennsylvania Ave. We’re just one block from the National Mall and, since we open an hour earlier than the Smithsonian museums, the Newseum is a great place to begin your day in Washington, D.C.

The Newseum offers safe and affordable parking inside our building at 555 Pennsylvania Ave. Entrance to the Newseum parking garage is on C Street.

Open 7 a.m. – 11 p.m., Mon. – Sat. and 9 a.m. – 11 p.m. on Sun., rates are $12 for the first hour and $20 for over one hour, up to a full day. All day on weekends there will be a flat rate of $15.

After 12 a.m. an additional $15 will be applied during weekdays or $20 during weekends. Normal daily rates will repeat after 5 a.m.


Metro is a quick, easy and efficient way to travel when you are in Washington, D.C., and the Newseum is close to several access points. Two are within walking distance of the museum:


There are several MetroBus routes with stops located within a quarter mile of the Newseum. To find the route closest to you, visit Metro’s website.

Capital Bikeshare

Capital Bikeshare puts more than 1,600 bicycles at your fingertips. You can choose any of the 175 stations across Washington, D.C., Arlington, Va., and Alexandria, Va., and return it to any station near your destination.  Simply take a bike from one of the many stations, and return it to a docking station near the Newseum. The following are the closest docking stations to the Newseum:

  • 6th and Indiana Ave. NW
  • 10th and Constitution Ave.  NW
  • 4th and D Streets NW
  • Maryland and Independence Ave. SW
